Voices from Down Under: Nardi Simpson’s Lecture on First Nations Narratives

  • Event Details & Registration During this lecture, Simpson will delve into ‘Creating First Nations Stories, Books and Music – Developments, Challenges and Changing Practices from Australia.’ It will be a unique opportunity to hear her insights and reflections on the craft of storytelling, its challenges and evolving practices. Simpson will also showcase her two most recent books: - Song of the Crocodile (an award-winning title) - Another Australia This event will appeal to adults with an interest in literature, artistic practices and those keen on understanding Australian indigenous culture and interdisciplinary knowledge.

Nardi Simpson’s Performative Lecture: ‘-barra’

  • Event Details & Registration Join Australian Indigenous musician, writer, composer, and storyteller Nardi Simpson as she takes you on a creative journey through the language, landscape, stories and sounds of her freshwater, floodplain, Yuwaalaraay homelands in North Western New South Wales. In this 1 hour workshop Nardi will share stories, knowledge, instruments (possum skin & kangaroo drums and clapsticks) and teachings of her community and elders. She will even have you singing in Yuwaalaraay language! If you enjoy interactive, interdisciplinary experiences, this workshop is for you. No need to read music, just sing and participate as an active audience.
